Nine kidnapped persons have been rescued and three suspected bandits killed during a joint security operation in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The operation involved Forest Guards recruited by the Kwara State Government, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters and vigilantes.

It was carried out in the Obbo-Aiyegunle, Ejiu-Ora and Osi areas, which border Ekiti and Kogi states.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council, Dada Sunday, the victims were abducted from Eju community after the local market and were being taken through forest routes towards Niger State before security personnel intercepted the kidnappers.

A member of the Kwara Forest Guards, Owolabi Adebayo, said the rescue followed an intelligence-led operation that led to a gun battle with the suspected kidnappers.

“We neutralised three of them and rescued nine people. One of the victims is receiving treatment for injuries,” he said.

The Chief Security Officer of Ekiti Local Government Area, Agbemuko Gabriel, commended the Forest Guards for their role in the operation, describing their contribution to security efforts in the area as significant.

The rescue comes amid intensified security operations across southern Kwara to combat kidnapping and banditry in border communities
