Yoruba Leaders Demand Urgent Regional Action Against Insecurity

Prominent Yoruba leaders and professionals under the Omo Oduduwa Collective have called for an emergency security summit in the South-West to address the rising cases of kidnappings, violent attacks and other criminal activities across the region.

In an open letter signed by several notable figures, including former senator and former presidential aide Babafemi Ojudu, the group urged governors, traditional rulers, lawmakers, security agencies and other stakeholders to work together in tackling the worsening security situation.

The collective expressed concern over the increasing abduction of citizens, attacks on travellers and other violent crimes, warning that the trend threatens public safety and the region’s stability.

It noted that continued insecurity could further weaken public confidence in government institutions.

The group proposed a regional security summit to develop practical solutions, improve intelligence sharing and strengthen cooperation among security agencies and other stakeholders.

According to the group, the South-West has the resources and capacity to overcome its security challenges, but success will require strong leadership, cooperation and a united commitment to protecting lives and property.
