Oshiomhole Supports Tougher Action Against Armed Criminals

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called for tougher action against armed criminals, arguing that security operatives should act decisively when confronted by dangerous offenders.

Speaking during an interview on TVC News, the Edo North senator criticised the controversy surrounding recent comments on the use of force by police officers.

The Nigeria Police Force had earlier clarified that the Inspector-General of Police was referring to Force Order 237, which outlines the legal conditions for the use of firearms.

Oshiomhole also praised the Department of State Services for appealing a court ruling that sentenced certain convicted offenders to life imprisonment instead of the death penalty.

He maintained that judges should apply the law strictly without allowing personal sentiments to influence their decisions.

Discussing President Bola Tinubu’s chances ahead of the next general election, Oshiomhole identified insecurity as the administration’s biggest challenge.

He urged the President to hold security chiefs accountable and ensure they deliver measurable improvements in the fight against crime and terrorism.
According to him, while the government has introduced key economic reforms, insecurity remains a major obstacle to national progress.

He stressed that Nigerians want to see consistent efforts and visible results in tackling security threats across the country.

The former Edo State governor also dismissed claims that President Tinubu is not visible enough in office, noting that the President regularly attends public engagements, presides over meetings and addresses national issues.

Oshiomhole acknowledged that opposition parties have a legitimate role in criticising the government but said political debate and competition remain essential elements of democracy.
