Law officers in the Kwara State Mnistry of Justice have begun an indefinite strike to protest the non-payment of outstanding allowances and the government’s failure to harmonise their salaries and working conditions with those of magistrates in the state judiciary.
The industrial action was announced by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kwara State Chapter, which directed all members to withdraw their services until the state government addresses their concerns.
According to the association, the strike follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over unresolved welfare issues.
The lawyers are demanding payment of outstanding furniture allowances dating back to 2020, robe allowances for 2024, 2025 and 2026, and the implementation of approved salary and service-condition reforms.
LOAN said repeated appeals to the state government and the Office of the Head of Service had failed to produce results, despite assurances given after a warning strike in October 2025.
The association noted that its members play key roles in the administration of justice, including prosecuting criminal cases, advising government agencies, drafting legislation and helping recover public revenue.
It stated that the strike will continue until the government meets its demands.
