LUTH Doctors Strike Over Unpaid Salaries and Housing Problems

Resident doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, have begun an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries, poor accommodation, and welfare concerns.

The strike, which started on July 20, was announced by the President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), LUTH chapter, Dr. Omogbolahan Adenuga.

He said the action followed unsuccessful efforts to resolve the issues with hospital management.

According to Adenuga, doctors have been unable to access the hospital’s residential quarters, which have been under renovation for about 18 months.

As a result, some doctors have reportedly been forced to sleep in their cars and hospital lounges while carrying out their duties.

He also said several doctors employed in April have not received their salaries because they are yet to be enrolled on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

The resident doctors are calling on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to intervene urgently.

They insist the strike will continue until concrete steps are taken to address their demands and improve working conditions at the hospital.
