Flash Flood Kills Four, Leaves Four Missing in Northern Vietnam

At least four people have died and four others remain missing after a flash flood swept through a mountainous village in Vietnam’s northern Lai Chau Province.

The flood struck Muong Than village early Friday following several days of heavy rainfall across northern Vietnam.

Seven people were also injured in the disaster.
Photos from the affected area showed roads covered in mud and floodwaters, with rocks and fallen logs scattered across damaged infrastructure.

Authorities said heavy rains have also triggered landslides, damaged roads and power lines, destroyed hundreds of homes, and flooded about 238 hectares of farmland in the region.

Vietnam regularly experiences severe storms and flooding during its rainy season, which runs from July to September.

Government data shows that natural disasters, mainly floods, claimed 489 lives across the country last year.

Weather officials have warned that some northern areas could receive up to 250 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday, raising concerns about further flash floods and landslides.
