Veteran Nollywood actor and producer Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has called on Nigerian men to reject gender-based violence and treat women with dignity and respect.
RMD made the appeal after being appointed as an ambassador of the Male Feminists Network for the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development.
He urged men to stop objectifying women and instead treat them with the same respect they would show their wives, daughters, and other loved ones.
He emphasized that disagreements should be resolved through dialogue rather than violence.
According to RMD, ending gender-based violence requires the active involvement of men, as women alone cannot tackle the problem.
He noted that many forms of discrimination and abuse against women are rooted in social and institutional practices that need to change.
He encouraged men to lead by example in their homes, saying children and society often learn from the way women are treated within families.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, said traditional and religious leaders can play a major role in ending harmful practices and changing social norms that encourage violence against women.
