Court Rejects Jurisdiction Challenge in Oloja of Lagos Dispute

Image

A Lagos State High Court has ordered all parties involved in the dispute over the Oloja of Lagos chieftaincy stool to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive case.

Justice Olalekan Oresanya issued the order after dismissing a preliminary objection filed by Prince Babajide Kosoko, who had challenged the court’s jurisdiction to hear the matter.

The objection was supported by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

The lawsuit was filed by members of the Akinsanya Olojo-Kosoko Ruling House, who are contesting attempts to replace Prince Abiola Olojo-Kosoko as the ruling house’s nominated candidate for the Oloja stool.

In his ruling, Justice Oresanya held that the claimants had presented issues that required a full hearing and could not be resolved through a preliminary objection.

He therefore dismissed the application challenging the court’s jurisdiction.

The court ordered all parties to preserve the existing situation and affirmed that Prince Abiola Olojo-Kosoko remains the Oloja-elect pending the outcome of the case.

The judge also directed that the matter be given accelerated hearing and adjourned proceedings until October 6, 2026, for the hearing of the substantive suit.
