Controversial social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been conferred with a traditional title by the Oluwo of Iwo and Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi.

The honour was bestowed during a palace ceremony held on Wednesday, where the monarch installed the activist as Atayese One of Nigeria, Orisha Nla, in the presence of palace chiefs, supporters and guests.

Photos from the event showed VDM dressed in a colourful Aso Oke attire as he received the title from the traditional ruler.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was when VDM prostrated before the Oluwo in keeping with Yoruba cultural tradition.

Earlier, videos circulating online showed the social media personality arriving at the palace alongside coordinators of his Ratel movement from the South-West.

The Oluwo, adorned in full traditional regalia, welcomed the activist before proceeding with the installation ceremony, which drew widespread attention on social media.

The event sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters congratulating VDM on the honour while others shared differing opinions about the recognition.
