Residents of Ondo community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State fled their homes on Tuesday after suspected armed herdsmen invaded the area and opened fire.

The attack, which reportedly began in the early hours of the day, forced many residents to abandon their homes and seek safety in neighbouring communities.

A native of the community and Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for the 2027 elections, Hon. Jimmy Nart, said the assault was still ongoing as of the time this report was filed.

In a message, he wrote: “I just received information from my family that Fulani terrorists are currently attacking Ondo, Ugboju. Protect yourself.”

The latest attack comes less than 48 hours after suspected armed herdsmen reportedly killed more than 18 people during an invasion of Otukpo-Nobi community in the same local government area.

As of press time, the number of casualties from the latest attack could not be independently confirmed.

When contacted by Koikimedia, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said the incident had not yet been reported to the command but assured that she would make enquiries and provide an update.

Residents said the community remained tense, with many families continuing to flee for fear of further attacks.
