AI Transforms Data Centre Maintenance with Smarter Monitoring

Artificial intelligence is reshaping data centre maintenance as operators seek smarter ways to manage growing computing demands, rising energy consumption, and increasingly complex infrastructure.

A recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC), sponsored by Schneider Electric, found that traditional maintenance schedules are becoming less effective in modern data centres.

Instead, many operators are adopting condition-based maintenance, which uses AI, data analytics, and continuous monitoring to predict equipment failures before they occur.

The report noted that AI workloads require significantly more computing power than conventional operations, leading to higher rack densities, greater cooling demands, and increased energy use.

These challenges have made it essential for operators to monitor equipment performance more closely.

According to IDC, condition-based maintenance enables data centre managers to make maintenance decisions based on real-time equipment conditions rather than fixed schedules.

This helps improve reliability and reduces the risk of unexpected outages.

Schneider Electric said its EcoCare service combines remote monitoring, AI-powered analytics, and expert support to continuously assess equipment health.

The company believes this approach can help reduce downtime, lower operating costs, and improve the lifespan of critical assets.

The report also highlighted a growing shortage of skilled data centre professionals, prompting many operators to rely more heavily on automation and intelligent monitoring systems.

As artificial intelligence continues to drive rapid growth in the data centre industry, experts say smarter maintenance solutions will be crucial for ensuring facilities remain efficient, reliable, and capable of meeting future demand.
