Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have recorded significant operational breakthroughs in Kogi State, rescuing kidnapped victims and intercepting a suspected terrorist ammunition courier in separate operations carried out on May 6, 2026.
According to the Army, soldiers under Operation TIGER PAW II successfully rescued the remaining abductees from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage after sustained search-and-rescue efforts in the Agbaja Forest area of Lokoja Local Government Area.
The rescued individuals include five boys, two girls, and two adult women believed to be wives of the orphanage proprietor.
Military authorities said all the victims were evacuated to the 12 Brigade Medical Centre, where they are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
In a separate operation, troops acting on intelligence arrested a suspected terrorist logistics courier, identified as Yahaya Umar, along the Obajana–Lokoja highway.
He was allegedly found transporting 500 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition concealed inside a sack of maize in an attempt to evade detection.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect is involved in supplying arms and ammunition to terrorist groups operating across Nigeria’s North Central region.
The Army further stated that the ammunition was being moved from the Obajana Forest area to Dikko Junction in Niger State for delivery to another suspected member of the network.
The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle the wider criminal network and apprehend other accomplices.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustained operations against terrorist and criminal elements, while urging citizens to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
