Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson for the movement, disclosed this in an interview with TheCable on Friday night, noting that discussions with the NDC have reached an advanced stage, with only minor issues left to be resolved.

Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, are expected to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) next week, as the Kwankwasiyya movement confirms that stakeholders have unanimously endorsed the move.

Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson for the movement, disclosed this in an interview with TheCable on Friday night, noting that discussions with the NDC have reached an advanced stage, with only minor issues left to be resolved.

“I believe him, Peter Obi, and some others will be joining the NDC,” Mohammed said.

He explained that representatives from all 44 local government areas of Kano State met at Kwankwaso’s residence on Friday around 3:30 p.m. to deliberate on the available political options.

According to him, the meeting ended with a unanimous decision giving Kwankwaso the approval to defect to the NDC.

“The stakeholders have unanimously given him the go-ahead to move to the NDC,” he added.

Mohammed further stated that Kwankwaso is currently in Kano and is expected to return to Abuja on Sunday ahead of the planned defection, which may take place on Monday or Tuesday.

It was gathered that Kwankwaso also held a strategic meeting with members of the Kwankwasiyya structure at his residence on Miller Road, Kano State, as part of final consultations.
