The ransom paid included ₦2 million, two mobile phones, and ₦70,000 worth of airtime

A man, Malam Zainu AB Mada, has been killed by bandits in Zamfara State, despite his family meeting the kidnappers’ demands.
The ransom paid included ₦2 million, two mobile phones, and ₦70,000 worth of airtime.
According to SaharaReporters, Malam Zainu’s funeral prayers were conducted on Thursday, several days after he was abducted on the Kwatarkwashi–Mada highway, a route increasingly plagued by armed attacks.
A Katsina-based security analyst, Mallam Bakatsine, said the victim was taken while travelling along the highway, a location frequently targeted by criminal gangs.
Residents confirmed that even after the family provided everything requested by the kidnappers, Malam Zainu was executed.
The ransom, which included cash, phones, and airtime, ultimately did not save his life, highlighting concerns that paying kidnappers no longer guarantees safety.
This incident reflects a growing trend in Zamfara and neighbouring states, where abducted victims are killed despite families complying with ransom demands.
Zamfara continues to be a major hotspot for banditry, with regular reports of kidnappings, raids on villages, killings, and attacks on highways.
Locals say they live in constant fear, especially those who rely on roads for trade, farming, and daily travel, even though authorities repeatedly assure the public of improved security.
