The accident involved one truck carrying sand and another loaded with granite

A trailer driver has died following a collision between two trucks on Otedola Bridge, inward secretariat, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Friday.
The accident involved one truck carrying sand and another loaded with granite.
The force of the crash trapped the driver of the sand-laden trailer, who sustained fatal injuries. LASTMA rescue operatives extricated him and handed him over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), which rushed him to General Hospital Ikeja, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the granite-laden truck escaped unhurt. Adebayo Taofiq, director of public affairs at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said the collision reportedly stemmed from a reckless contest for the right of way.
“The forceful impact led to devastating consequences, resulting in the entrapment of the driver of the sand-laden trailer, who later died,” Taofiq added.
The situation worsened when a flour-loaded trailer overturned about 50 metres away, blocking nearly 80 percent of the carriageway and causing heavy gridlock.
Police from Alausa division were deployed to manage traffic and maintain security while recovery operations continued.
Motorists heading inward Lagos from Mowe, Kara Bridge, and Redemption Camp were diverted through Ojodu–Olole via Agidingbi, Coca-Cola, Secretariat, and 7Up towards Gbagada or Ojota.
The special adviser to the governor on transportation, Sola Giwa, described the crashes as regrettable and preventable, citing impatience, indiscipline, and failure to yield as key causes.
He urged motorists to follow traffic rules and exercise mutual courtesy.
Giwa offered condolences to the deceased’s family and commended LASTMA, LASAMBUS, and security agencies for their prompt response.
