The federal government has announced the disbursement of N152 billion to contractors for what it described as “verified contracts,” following months of protests over delayed payments.
The Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this on Thursday, saying the payments were subjected to strict verification in line with existing laws and regulations.
“I wish to confirm that the Federal Ministry of Finance has disbursed a total of N152 billion to contractors for verified contracts,” she said.
Uzoka-Anite noted that every payment undergoes rigorous checks to ensure accountability, transparency, and the protection of taxpayers’ funds.
She acknowledged the financial strain contractors faced due to delays and assured that the ministry remained committed to dialogue and engagement to resolve outstanding issues.
The disbursement comes after months of protests by members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN), who had repeatedly blocked the entrances of the Ministry of Finance and the National Assembly over unpaid contract sums.
