On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping condemned what he called “unilateral hegemonic bullying,” making his first public remarks since the U.S. attack on Venezuela.
Speaking after a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin in Beijing, Xi did not mention the U.S. directly but appeared to be referring to the weekend attack on Venezuela and the seizure of President Nicolas Maduro.
“The world today is full of turmoil, and unilateral hegemonic bullying is seriously undermining the international order,” Xi said, according to remarks released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“All countries should respect the development paths chosen independently by their people, uphold international law and the purposes and principles of the U.N. Charter, with major powers setting the example,” he added.
