Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State is set to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The governor’s Political Adviser, Mr Istifanus Nwansat, told newsmen on Monday in Abuja that the move was prompted by internal chaos within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has rendered the platform unsuitable for political actors.
Nwansat said the decision also positions Muftwang in support of President Bola Tinubu’s political and governance agenda.
“From the assessment and analysis of all available options, we have concluded that the safest decision, with the least risk factor, is to move into the APC,” he explained.
He added, “The governor believes it is reasonable as a leader to guide his people to align with the President. Even as PDP members, we recognise the efforts of Mr President in putting things right.”
Meanwhile, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire of Ondo Central Senatorial District has stated that there is no opposition capable of defeating President Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking at the Adegbonmire Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment programme, which empowered 900 people, the senator said Tinubu’s allies are already mobilising for his re-election to secure an “overwhelming victory.”
“Where’s the opposition? I don’t know of any. Who is in the ADC? Tell me who the person is going to be. There is no ADC,” he said, adding that the programme was intended to support the President, the state government, and the APC.
“Since he cannot do everything himself, those of us supporting him must ensure people feel the impact of Mr President,” Adegbonmire concluded.
