Akungba Akoko again experienced another severe accident on Wednesday evening as a truck reportedly belongs to the Dangote group lost control and crashed at the hotspot in front of the university gate in the town.
The accident resulted in the death of 10 people according to account of eye witness.
Among those involved in the carnage were a pregnant woman, kids and a 200 level student of Library and Information Science at the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA).
Comrade Ajidagba Mosadoluwa Akinbobola, the public relations officer of the student union of AAUA who made a statement on the gory incident that claimed lives of innocent souls said.
“We regret to inform the entirety of the students populace that an articulated vehicle belonging to Dangote group of company suffered a break failure from Ikare enroute to Akungba has destroyed by accident the permanent barricade erected at the university main gate.
“As it stands, close to 10 persons have lost their lives due to this tragic incident.
As we all can recollect the Students’ Union has made several efforts to ensure that trucks stop plying akungba roads as it can cause danger to the lives and properties of our students.
“We still remain resolute in the assurance of this struggle. We implore all students to remain and fearless as we are up to the task of maintaining peace and order within the students community and as well to stay away from the highway for the time being,” the statement reads.
People also called on the government to construct good roads as it always leads to death of many Nigerians and also checkmate the excesses of dangote’s truck drivers as they are killing Nigerians due to their recklessness.
