The Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.

The initiative, according to the government, is part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s plan to reposition and revitalise the state’s sports sector through sustainable funding and strategic partnerships.

Speaking in Osogbo during a courtesy visit by the Osun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, said Davido’s appointment was aimed at attracting both local and international support for sports development in the state.

Adewusi stated that the government was committed to rejuvenating the sports sector by upgrading facilities to meet global standards.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to completing the renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which he said would be transformed into an Olympic-standard arena capable of hosting national and international events.

“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards is a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi assured.

He also disclosed that plans were underway to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which would serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation across the state.

On the newly introduced Sports Trust Fund, Adewusi explained that the initiative was designed to attract financial support from philanthropists, organisations, and sports enthusiasts within and outside the state to ensure long-term growth and sustainability.

“Davido did not hesitate in accepting the appointment to chair the Sports Trust Fund,” he said, expressing optimism that the singer’s involvement would draw both moral and financial support from across the globe.
