The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 15 suspects across the state for various offences, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Among them was 20-year-old Auwal Mohammed, who was caught in the Mazah community of Jos North LGA while attempting to deliver food and other supplies to a kidnap syndicate operating along the Plateau–Bauchi border.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, said Mohammed was apprehended on August 3, 2025, by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a surveillance operation.
“Upon conducting a search on him, detectives recovered one cutlass, loaves of bread, packets of cigarettes, powdered custard, tea, glucose, a torchlight, and a Tecno Camon phone which he admitted belonged to one of the victims,” the CP disclosed.
Adesina explained that preliminary investigations revealed Mohammed is a member of a kidnap syndicate.
The suspect allegedly confessed that he was on his way to deliver the supplies to his colleagues in the forest while they awaited ransom payment from the family of their victim.
“The suspect is in custody, and efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate for prosecution,” Adesina assured.
In addition, three suspects; Sunusi Abdullahi, Suleiman Saidu, and Abbas Yusuf were also arrested for kidnapping activities in the Mista-Ali area of Bassa LGA. Police further rescued a victim, identified simply as Ebuka, during an operation that led to the arrest of four others found with a locally fabricated pistol.
Other suspects paraded included Inusa Yahaya and Abdulrahman Suleiman, caught with a locally fabricated revolver rifle, as well as Godwin Jacob, who was found in possession of a pistol.
“I have directed all Divisional Police Officers and tactical units to intensify surveillance and patrol operations across Plateau State to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike,” he stated.
