Former Vice President and presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its inaction on Nigeria’s mounting challenges.

Atiku described the government as “unmoved and uncaring,” accusing it of failing to tackle rising hunger and insecurity across the country.

In a statement on his X platform marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, he lamented that millions of Nigerians have been reduced to refugees and beggars despite the nation’s vast human and material resources.

“It is tragic that in a country blessed with immense resources, millions of our people have been reduced to refugees and beggars in their fatherland,” Atiku said.

He added, “Every responsible government holds the welfare and security of its citizens as supreme. But what we have today is an administration that has abandoned its people. Hunger is killing Nigerians, bandits are massacring communities, yet President Tinubu and his cabinet stand by, unmoved and uncaring.”

Atiku highlighted democracy as a tool for accountability, reminding citizens that “the power of the ballot allows them to remove inept governments.”

Reflecting on Nigeria at 65, he said, “Nigeria remains a giant moving painfully slow on feet of clay due to decades of poor leadership. Yet with the right leadership, our country can rise from the ashes of failed governance to reclaim its place among nations.”
