Nigeria – July 12, 2025
In a historic development for the Yoruba self-determination movement, Professor Banji Akintoye, esteemed historian and global leader of the Yoruba Nation Movement, today announced the official inauguration and launch of the long-anticipated Yoruba Nation Diplomatic Passport.
Speaking during a press briefing streamed live from an undisclosed location, Prof. Akintoye confirmed that the diplomatic passport has been officially recognized and authenticated by the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) — a global body dedicated to supporting indigenous peoples, minorities, and territories seeking autonomy.
A Major Milestone in Yoruba Nation Diplomacy
The unveiling ceremony, which took place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, marks a significant diplomatic milestone for the movement. According to the announcement, holders of the Yoruba Nation Diplomatic Passport will now benefit from recognized international status, with free and unhindered passage across West Africa, several European countries, and parts of North America.
“This is not just a symbolic document,” said Prof. Akintoye.
“It represents a new chapter in our pursuit of global recognition, dignity, and sovereignty as a distinct Yoruba nation. The world is beginning to hear our voice — and it will only grow louder.”
The professor, a respected academic and former senator, has long led the charge for peaceful self-determination for the Yoruba people through non-violent means and global advocacy.
Immunity and Recognition for Yoruba Nationals Abroad
The diplomatic passport, according to movement officials, grants a level of diplomatic immunity and travel privilege, designed to protect Yoruba representatives and freedom advocates across international borders.
UNPO’s endorsement is seen as a major breakthrough that positions the Yoruba Nation movement within an international framework of dialogue, representation, and legal advocacy.
Celebration Across Yoruba Communities
The announcement sparked celebrations across Yoruba communities both in Nigeria and the diaspora. Supporters praised the move as a bold and visionary step toward full nationhood and international legitimacy.
“Kudos to our indefatigable father and leader,” said one Yoruba activist during a virtual gathering.
“Prof. Banji Akintoye has once again proven his commitment to the freedom and future of our people.”
Digital images of the newly approved passport began circulating online shortly after the press conference, generating excitement among Yoruba descendants in the U.S., U.K., France, Canada, Ghana, and neighboring West African nations.
Next Steps for the Movement
The Yoruba Self-Determination Movement has pledged to continue its diplomatic efforts through legal, peaceful, and internationally guided processes. The movement is also calling on Yoruba sons and daughters across the globe to unite in one voice and register for the passport as a show of solidarity and national identity.
“This is not the end of our journey,” Prof. Akintoye stated.
“It is the beginning of an international recognition process. We remain peaceful, but we are firm in our resolve to exit Nigeria in dignity and truth.”
For further information on registration procedures, eligibility criteria, and issuance of the Yoruba Nation Diplomatic Passport, the movement has promised to release guidelines through its official communication channels in the coming days.
