The Nigeria Police Force has begun an investigation into a viral video showing a woman giving alcohol to a few-month-old baby, sparking widespread outrage on social media.

The video, shared by influencer @ChuksEricE, shows the woman tearing open a sachet believed to be Triple Action Bitters with her teeth, taking a sip, and then feeding it to the infant.

Describing the act as “illegal and dangerous”, the police condemned the exposure of children to alcohol, saying it violates child welfare laws and poses serious risks to the child’s health.

“We are aware of this distressing video and are investigating urgently. Exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and dangerous,” the police said.

They urged members of the public, especially @ChuksEricE, to provide any useful information that could help track down the woman. Information can be submitted via 09169967000.

“The child’s safety is our priority,” the police added.

The video has drawn strong reactions online, with many users expressing disgust. An X user, @ibukun_tayo, said, “Some people are not supposed to be allowed to have kids,” echoing widespread condemnation and concern for the child’s wellbeing.
