Former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola have been named the interim National Chairman and Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), respectively.

Their appointment follows the adoption of the ADC as the official platform for a new opposition coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Multiple credible sources who attended the coalition’s meeting on Tuesday night in Abuja confirmed the development. The leaders of the alliance reportedly reached a unanimous decision on the appointments of Mark and Aregbesola.

The sources also revealed that former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi has been appointed as the interim National Publicity Secretary of the ADC.

The newly restructured ADC and its leadership are expected to be formally presented to the public at an unveiling ceremony in Abuja today.

The opposition coalition was first initiated on March 20 during a strategic meeting in Abuja, where prominent figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, agreed to form a united front ahead of 2027.

The alliance has sparked intense public debate on its potential to shift Nigeria’s political landscape.

Confirming the adoption of the ADC, former PDP National Publicity Secretary and ex-aide to Senator Mark, Kola Ologbondiyan, posted on his verified X handle, “African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been adopted as the political party for the coalition. The party has elected Sen. David Mark as the Interim National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the Interim National Secretary.”
