Ibadan, Nigeria – July 1, 2025
Today marks the fourth anniversary of the failed assassination attempt on Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho Oṣa, a central figure in the Yoruba Nation movement. Supporters, well-wishers, and members of the self-determination campaign have declared July 1st a day of thanksgiving and remembrance, celebrating his survival and ongoing commitment to the liberation of the Yoruba people.

On this day in 2021, heavily armed Nigerian security operatives stormed Chief Igboho’s residence in Soka, Ibadan, in a midnight operation that left his home vandalized and his personal properties destroyed. The raid, widely condemned by human rights groups and activists, was seen by many as a targeted attempt on his life. Despite the chaos and gunfire, Chief Igboho miraculously escaped — a turn of events his supporters attribute to divine intervention.

A Day of Reflection, Prayer, and Gratitude

The day has been marked by special prayers, tributes, and reflection across various Yoruba communities both at home and in the diaspora. A solemn prayer of protection and prosperity was offered on his behalf, seeking continued divine guardianship for the activist and his family.

“We remember the terror of that day, but we also remember the miracle,” a prayer leader said during a thanksgiving gathering. “God spared the life of our leader, and for that, we give thanks.”

The prayer called upon God to protect Chief Sunday Igboho, forgive any past wrongs, and grant him strength and wisdom as he continues to lead the Yoruba Nation struggle. It also sought blessings upon other freedom fighters and Yoruba leaders committed to justice, equity, and cultural preservation.

Chief Igboho: A Symbol of Courage and Resistance

Described as a symbol of resistance against oppression, Chief Sunday Igboho has remained vocal in his call for an independent Yoruba Nation, even while in exile. Supporters say his unwavering stand represents the voice of millions yearning for a secure, just, and prosperous future.

“His resilience reminds us that truth cannot be silenced,” said Olayomi Koiki, his official spokesperson. “This anniversary is not just about survival; it is about purpose, legacy, and the continued struggle for our people’s freedom.”

Hope for the Future of the Yoruba Nation

As the commemoration continued, prayers were also raised for peace, restoration, and the ultimate realization of the Yoruba Nation. Supporters expressed hope that Chief Igboho would live to see the fulfillment of the cause he has so courageously championed.

“We believe that justice will prevail. We believe the Yoruba Nation will rise,” one supporter said during the prayer gathering. “And we believe Chief Igboho will return home in victory.”

The anniversary serves as both a memorial of survival and a reaffirmation of purpose a moment to celebrate resilience and renew the call for justice, self-determination, and cultural dignity.
