A speeding tipper truck loaded with shaft sand crashed into the Mile 6 Market in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Saturday, killing several traders and injuring many others.
The tragic incident occurred around midday when the truck reportedly suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control and veer into the busy market.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle knocked down people and structures as it ploughed through the crowded area.

“It happened so fast,” said Musa Ibrahim, a local vendor. “The truck was on speed and after the tyre burst, the driver couldn’t control it. It just rammed into the crowd.”
Emergency responders, including security operatives and medical teams, quickly arrived at the scene to rescue the injured and recover bodies.

Many of the victims have been taken to nearby hospitals, while efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased and notify their families.
The truck driver has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations continue into the cause of the accident.
