Tragedy struck in Elele community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, after a member of the Organized Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), identified as Godspower, allegedly beat a man, Confidence Ikechi, to death.

The incident reportedly followed a heated altercation involving Confidence and a female co-tenant.

According to Chiwenkpe Ikechi, the elder brother of the deceased, the trouble began when Confidence returned home around 11pm after work and was insulted by the woman, who called him a drunk and claimed he was smelling.

He said the woman went as far as pouring saliva on Confidence and slapping him, which led him to retaliate.

“She insulted him, spat on him, and slapped him. My brother slapped her back. Then she hit him with a stick and ran off to call her boyfriend,” Chiwenkpe narrated.

Shortly after, Godspower, said to be an OSPAC operative, arrived with a colleague known as J Boy.

“They came into the compound and started hitting him with sticks and machetes on his chest, stomach and back. He started bleeding and eventually died,” Chiwenkpe alleged.

The deceased, a father of two, was also said to be a member of the OSPAC vigilante group in his home community of Obelle in Emohua LGA, though he resided in Elele.

Police have since arrested Godspower, his girlfriend, and her son in connection with the incident.

Chiwenkpe confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt.

“We need justice. They cannot kill him and go free,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, had yet to comment on the incident.

However, sources confirmed that the suspects are in police custody at SCIID, Port Harcourt.
