President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reconciled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the State House of Assembly.

The peace deal was reportedly sealed during a late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja between the President and the warring parties.

Wike and Fubara had been locked in a prolonged power tussle over the political control of Rivers State, a conflict that extended to the State House of Assembly.

The face-off triggered multiple court cases, culminating in a Supreme Court judgement in favour of the lawmakers.

However, the ruling further escalated tensions, with Wike and the legislators threatening to impeach Governor Fubara.

In March, the crisis reached a boiling point, prompting President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state.

He suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Assembly, and appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the State Administrator.

A source at the Presidential Villa told Daily Trust that last night’s meeting followed an earlier closed-door discussion involving Fubara, Wike, and the lawmakers.

“The meeting with the President was to inform him that the crisis has been resolved,” the source said.

“From the body language after the meeting, I can tell you that Wike, Fubara, and the lawmakers have settled their differences.

“You know the President had previously urged them to end the feud. I believe this meeting was to appreciate his role in restoring peace.”
