River State, Nigeria || April 14 2025
A group of women dressed in white marched through the streets of Port Harcourt on Monday in support of President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Operating under the banner of Rivers Women for Good Governance, they moved from the Garrison flyover to Isaac Boro Park, holding placards with inscriptions such as “State of Emergency is Constitutional” and “We Don’t Want Fubara.”
The protest was led by Ifeyinwa Aguma, a former Commissioner for Social Welfare and ally of Nyesom Wike.
The women threw their weight behind Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the newly appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, describing him as “God-sent” and capable of restoring peace and democratic governance.
They urged Ibas to probe alleged inflated contracts under the suspended administration of Siminalayi Fubara, stating that “the state of emergency declaration has brought calm to the state, dispelling uncertainty and fear.”
They also expressed gratitude to the president, saying: “We don’t want Fubara. We thank President Tinubu for taking bold steps to restore peace in Rivers State.”
Their protest underscores the growing divide in the state.
Last week, another group of women demonstrated in support of Fubara and demanded his return to office.
