A driver was burnt to death in an accident that occurred along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, after Okegun/Seaport, inward Epe, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, road traffic management agency said on Thursday.

The accident which occured mid-day, involved a Toyota Highlander Jeep (GGE 432 JC) and an empty Sino tipper truck, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The Toyota Highlander Jeep, travelling inward Ajah, lost control while in motion, veered across the expressway, and collided with the moving Sino tipper truck heading towards Epe, LASTMA’s General Manager of , Olalekan Bakare-Oki said, adding that the car caught fire, with the driver tragically trapped inside.

LASTMA Officers, in conjunction with the Lagos State Fire Services (Epe Division), extinguished the fire and subsequently, recovered the remains of the driver, the LASTMA boss said.

“The deceased’s body was handed over to his family members, who arrived at the scene from Epe.

“Security operatives from the Epe Police Division provided essential support throughout the rescue and recovery operations, ensuring the safety and coordination of efforts at the scene.”

Bakare-Oki, however, conveyed his profound condolences to the bereaved family members, praying for divine solace and strength to help them endure the tragic loss.

He reiterated the commitment of the road traffic management agency to promoting road safety and urged all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and prioritize regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such preventable calamities.
