OGUN, Nigeria – A yet-to-be-identified female pedestrian was reportedly crushed to death by a hit-and-run driver along the Ijebu-Ijesha road in Nigeria’s Ogun state.
The incident occurred on November 21, 2024, Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola said on Saturday.
While the deceased lay lifeless in the middle of the motorway, passing vehicles continued to run over her body, leaving it unrecognisable, according to local newspaper The Punch.
Odutola stated that police operatives from the Obalende Division had reached out to health officers from the Odogbolu Local Government Council to arrange for the deceased’s burial.
“Our Obalende Division received a report of a hit-and-run incident. Upon visiting the scene, the police found that the victim was a female,” she said.
“They also found that the body had been repeatedly crushed by passing vehicles. Local government officials have been contacted to arrange for the burial.”
This incident occurred just days after a hit-and-run driver struck an unidentified adult female passenger to death on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while other passengers narrowly escaped with their lives.
The accident, which occurred around 6:17 p.m. on Wednesday, involved a fully loaded Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BOJ716XF and an unidentified truck.
The passenger bus from Lagos State to Ibadan reportedly collided with the unidentified truck, which had entered the motorway at high speed from a nearby trailer park without properly checking for oncoming traffic.
