A farmer has been reportedly killed and six others abducted by terrorists – locally dubbed as bandits in Nigeria.
The incident occurred in the Bali Local Government Area of the north-central state of Taraba.
It was learnt that the deceased farmer, Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu, was killed on his farm over the weekend in Garbatau village, a farming community located in between two mountains, while the six farmers were kidnapped along the village.
A resident of Maihula town, Adamu Dauda, told local newspaper Daily Trust that the assailants had reached out to the families of the abducted farmers and demanded ₦100 million as ransom.
Adamu further stated that this time last year, hundreds of kidnappers invaded the area and kidnapped dozens of farmers, preventing them from harvesting their crops.
He said the farmers were harvesting their crops but the kidnappers had halted the process as they did last year.
Taraba State Police Command’s spokesman SP Usman Abdullahi did not respond to a request for comment.
