Embattled Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has vowed never to accept any award or recognition designed for females.
Bobrisky stated this while attributing his problems to the award he received from actress Eniola Ajao.
The crossdresser received what local news outlets called ‘Best Dressed Female’ award at Eniola Ajao’s movie premiere in March 2024.
Shortly after, Bobrisky was arrested by the country’s anti-graft agency EFCC for naira abuse at the award ceremony, and he was sentenced to six months jail.
Although he was officially held at Kirikiri Prison, reports emerged later alleging that Bobrisky spent only three weeks in the facility before being discreetly moved to a private location, triggering widespread speculation that his release and special treatment were facilitated through bribery, with accusations of a ₦15 million payment made to officials to secure his transfer and preferential conditions.
The situation escalated in late September when a popular social media critic and influencer, VeryDarkMan, shared an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky on social media.
In the leaked recording, Bobrisky purportedly claimed that a popular singer Folarin Falana, known as Falz, and his father, a prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), had approached him during his imprisonment, seeking ₦10m to secure a presidential pardon.
In response, Falana senior and junior issued a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, 2024, demanding a retraction and public apology for what they called “defamatory statements”.
Bobrisky, however, denied making the claims, stating that he was not responsible for the leaked content and urging the Falanas to hold VDM accountable instead.
On 22 October, Bobrisky was intercepted at the Sème border while allegedly attempting to flee Nigeria. Nine days later, he was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight and detained by immigration officers before being handed over to the EFCC.
Bobrisky departed Nigeria on Sunday, 3 Nov. after his release from the custody of the EFCC, citing the need to attend to his ‘sanity and health’.
However, Bobrisky blamed Eniola Ajao for his problems, stating that it all began with her award.
Reflecting on his ordeal in a post on his Instagram story, Bobrisky wrote “My problem started when I collected the best dressed female award with ₦1 million prize.
“For my life, if I see an award for best dressed female I go disappear from that location ASAP. Everyone knows the truth that I am a baddie with class, you wanna compete with me? Your mummy never!!!! But when the problem wan too much make I run,” he said.
Eniola Ajao could not be reached for comment.
