At least fifty communities have been cut off following the collapse of a bridge in Ibarapa East Local Government in the Ibarapa geopolitical zone of Oyo State, South-West Nigeria.
The bridge on Ipin River reportedly collapsed due to heavy rain.
Residents called on the Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde to come to their aid, saying that no fewer than fifty communities have been cut off as a result of the collapse of the bridge.
They also called on the chairman of the local government area, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, to expedite action to reconstruct the collapsed bridge, according to local news outlet Daily Post.
They maintained that the collapse of the bridge has caused more hardship for the people of the area, noting that the road led to about 50 villages.
βIt is common knowledge that nobody could prevent rain from falling during its season, but the rain which fell on Friday, 11th October 2024, through Saturday morning was unprecedented,β said one of the residents, who pleaded anonymity.
The chairman of the local government area, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, did not respond to a requests for comment.
