Nigeria’s electricity grid has collapsed again, the third time in one week.

Power generation went off on Saturday morning around 8:16 a.m.

KOIKI Media had reported that the power grid collapsed on Monday evening and suffered another collapse on Tuesday morning when it was being restored.

However, a check on Saturday showed that power generation was 3,042 megawatts at 8 am and peaked at 3,968MW at 7 am.

It subsequently dropped to 47MW as of 9 am.

Allocation to power distribution companies stood at 0.00MW at the time local news outlet The Punch newspaper filed this report.

The cause of the collapse could not be ascertained at the moment as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) could not be reached for comment.

Nigeria’s national power grid often collapses, affecting millions. It supplies 3,500-5,500 MW to 200 million people, but in 2024, it experienced the most collapses since 2019.
