Lagos – A man in his mid 20s has been in Nigeria’s commercial hub Lagos for allegedly stabbing his father to death, police said.

The incident happened at their residence on Oba Kabiru Street, Isolo, Lagos.

Chibunna Chiemelie, 25, was reportedly arrested following a report made at the Aswani Police Division by his father’s neighbour, and the suspect confessed to the crime following his arrest, Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said.

“The incident occurred on October 3, 2024, at around 9:30 pm, when a complainant reported to the Aswani Division that he had received a call from his father’s neighbour,” Hundeyin said.

“The neighbour informed him that his father, Mr Chiemelie, aged 68, was in an altercation with his son. The complainant rushed to the residence and found his father’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, which led to the police report.

“Police officers were dispatched to the scene, where a blood-stained knife was discovered near the deceased. Photographs of the scene were taken, and the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Isolo, where he was pronounced dead.

“The suspect was arrested shortly after, and during questioning, he admitted to killing his father. The body has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary, while the investigation is ongoing.”
