Professor Segun Aina has assumed office as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), promising to preserve the integrity of the examination body and strengthen measures against examination malpractice.
Aina officially took over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede on Friday at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, following the expiration of Oloyede’s two-term tenure, which ended on July 31, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu had appointed Aina as the substantive registrar of the board on May 21, making the 39-year-old computer engineering professor the youngest person to head JAMB.
In a statement announcing the appointment, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as “a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform.”
Onanuga added that Aina, who became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at the age of 39, would also make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar.
In his inaugural address, Aina assured stakeholders that the board would remain committed to conducting credible examinations and would continue to leverage technology to curb examination malpractice.
He warned those engaged in examination fraud to abandon such activities, saying, “their business is in a wrong institution.”
The new registrar also pledged to sustain JAMB’s collaboration with security agencies to further protect the integrity of the board’s examinations and admission processes.
