2027: Obidients Warn Wike, Politicians Against Manipulating Election Results

The Obidient Movement has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other political actors against attempting to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 general elections.

The warning followed Wike’s recent comments on the 2023 presidential election, in which he disclosed that the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) G5 governors worked to prevent Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, from winning Rivers State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Media and Communications Directorate of the Obidient Movement, the group said Wike’s comments had reinforced its position on the conduct of the 2023 presidential election.

The statement, published on the movement’s X handle, was titled, “Wike’s Open Confession to Election Manipulation and Rigging on TVC: Write Your Will Now If You Are Planning to Manipulate 2027 Results.”

The movement alleged that Wike and other political actors manipulated the 2023 election to favour President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It warned that any attempt to interfere with voters’ choices in 2027 would be resisted.

“In view of the foregoing, the Obidient Movement hereby invites Wike and his co-conspirators to make sure they write their will before the 2027 elections, as Nigerians are determined to enforce the rig-and-die mantra from the polling units to the collation centres,” the statement said.

“Any manipulation or attempted manipulation of the people’s will would be met with forceful resistance, including the possible infliction of terminal wounds on such people.”

The group also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to focus on its constitutional responsibility of conducting credible elections.

It accused the electoral commission of favouring the ruling APC and demanded an end to what it described as bias in the electoral process.

“INEC’s responsibility is to the Nigerian people and to the integrity of the electoral process,” the movement said.

The Obidient Movement also called on security agencies to remain neutral during the election, saying their responsibility was to protect voters, electoral officials and the democratic process.

It warned against the use of security personnel to intimidate voters, suppress opposition or interfere with the electoral process.

The group further appealed to political thugs not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to disrupt elections, arguing that they are often abandoned by those who recruit them once elections are over.

On the 2027 poll, the movement said Nigerians would reject any outcome it believed had been predetermined by political actors.

“In 2027, Nigerians are not going to court, and will not accept results written by Tinubu, Wike, and a compromised INEC,” it said.

The group insisted that the election must be determined by voters at polling units and that announced results should reflect the votes actually cast.

“The 2027 election must be decided by voters at the polling units, not by politicians in private rooms, electoral officials behind closed doors or security agencies acting outside their constitutional mandate,” it added.

The movement concluded by demanding free, fair, transparent and credible elections in 2027.

Wike’s comments on 2023 election

The warning came after Wike spoke about the 2023 presidential election during an interview on TVC News’ Journalists’ Hangout on Monday.

The FCT minister explained the strategy adopted by the G5 governors during the election, saying they allowed Obi to win in Edo and Cross River because the PDP’s strength in the South-South was considered a threat to Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate at the time.

According to Wike, Rivers State was an exception because the group did not want Obi to win there.

“It was only Rivers that said, ‘No, we have a problem here in Rivers. Obi will not win here because if he wins, he sends a signal somewhere, people may not understand it.’ And we stopped…we stopped it,” Wike said.

Wike also said the political circumstances that favoured Obi in 2023 had changed ahead of 2027.

He argued that Obi could no longer win the South-South in the next presidential election and advised him to prepare for the 2031 election.
