Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a group of opposition politicians under the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) have endorsed the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) as their political platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group has also submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), requesting formal registration of ADA as a political party.
The letter, dated June 19 and stamped received at INEC headquarters on June 20, was addressed to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. It was co-signed by Chief Akin Ricketts, who is listed as ADA’s Protem National Chairman, and Abdullahi Musa Elayo, the Protem National Secretary.
In the letter titled “Application for registration as a political party”, the coalition stated that the decision to form ADA was taken following internal deliberations among its members.
“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party,” the letter reads in part.
According to the application, ADA’s slogan is “Justice for All”, while its logo and party colours include the image of a corn (maize), which the group says carries symbolic meaning.
The coalition also submitted its party flag, constitution, manifesto, and minutes of meetings as part of the requirements outlined in the Constitution and Electoral Act.
The coalition said its constitution sets out the party’s ideology, internal structure, and operational framework in line with Sections 40 and 222 of the 1999 Constitution and Section 75 of the Electoral Act, 2022.
Among the key political figures backing the new party are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Senate President David Mark, and Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats.
With this move, the NNCG is positioning the ADA as a new opposition vehicle in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
