ANAMBRA, Nigeria – A truck vehicle crashed into some vehicles in Nigeria’s southeastern state of Anambra, leaving an unknown number of people dead.

The incident reportedly happened at Idemili Junction on Tuesday evening when a speeding trailer with a 40-feet container lost control and crashed, trapping tricycles, a shuttle bus, and pedestrians underneath, with eyewitnesses saying that the trailer’s brakes failed, resulting in the catastrophic crash.

Video clips from the devastating scene, seen by KOIKI Media on Wednesday, show the gruesome aftermath, with body parts and debris scattered around.

Rescue operations were ongoing, with officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police working to extricate trapped victims.

“I wanted to enter this shuttle bus but I entered the second one. I would have been dead now. God thank you for sparring my life,” an unknown person said in one of the clips, with others lamenting the devastating accident.

Another voice was overheard saying: “This junction has become a death zone. Every time accident happens at this junction it always claims so many lives.”

The FRSC spokesperson in Anambra State, RC Margaret Onobe, confirmed the crash and promised to provide more details soon.
