EKITI – A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Nigeria’s southwestern state of Ekiti, a security outfit said on Sunday.

The rape incident reportedly took place in the Efon Alaaye area of the state, the southwest security outfit – codenamed Amotekun Corps said.

The Ekiti Amotekun corps commander, Brig. Gen. Olu Adewa (retd.), said Oluwabunmi Anifowose was arrested on Saturday at a hideout in the ljebu-ljesha area of Osun State where he had run to in a bid to escape arrest.

According to a Sunday statement by the Head of Communications, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Abiodun Adeleye, information had it that the minor was sent on an errand to buy fufu from another street when she was accosted by the suspect and the consequent rape incident occurred.

“The arresting Amotekun officers stated that the suspect was arrested in ljebu-ljesha, Osun State where he was hiding himself amid his colleagues who were suspected to be cult members.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police at the Efon Ekiti Division for further investigation and necessary action”.

The Amotekun boss added that operatives also arrested two men, Mr Usman Sheidu, 30, and a 32-year-old gateman, Mr Olalekan Aluko, for allegedly stealing an iron door at the Oke-ljebu Agege area in lkole Local Government Area.

He said, “Upon interrogation by the arresting Amotekun officers, the two suspects confessed to the crime. The duo has since been handed over to the Divisional Police in lkole Ekiti for further profiling.”

Adewa, who said there was no hiding place for criminals of any kind in the state, called on residents to volunteer information that could help security agents including Amotekun to arrest suspects and prevent the commission of crimes.
