SAGAMU – Nigeria’s southwestern city of Sagamu was aglow on Friday, 27 December 2024, as the maiden edition of Remo Day culminated in a grand rally celebrating the unity, culture, and progress of Remoland in Ogun state.

Hosted by the revered Akarigbo of Remoland, the event brought together dignitaries from across the country, including Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu; Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun; the first lady of the state, Bamidele Abiodun; the Deputy Governor of Ogun state, Noimot Salako; the Ewusi of Makun, HRH Oba Timothy Oyesola Akinsanya, ORUNAGBA II; Chairman of Adron Group and Otun Akile of Remoland Aare Adetola Emmanuelking, amongst others.

Communities from across Remoland including Epe, Makun, Iperu, Irolu, Emuren, Ogere, Ikenne, Ilara, Ode remo, Isara, Ipara, Ilishan, Soyindo, Ijagba, Ado, Ode lemo, Ibido, Idena, Ogijo, Atayo, Eposo, Idado, Latawa, Oko, Ipoji, Lowa ibu, Igbepa, Ijoku, Iraye, Ilupeju, Iraniken, Okeselu, Simawa, Ilaye, Iraye, Agura, Igode, Sotubo, Ariye , Araromi, Imushin, Imeji, Agbehinsa , and many more, converged at the Gateway Stadium to pay homage to the Akarigbo of Remoland, in an act of respect and solidarity that emphasized the deep-rooted connection between the people and their traditional ruler as they celebrated the remarkable growth and development of Remo.

Many groups brought a splash of vibrance to the event, dazzling attendees with their matching cultural attires that reflected the rich traditions of Remoland. Their coordinated elegance and enthusiastic homage added a memorable touch to the grand celebration.

The Remo Day celebration, themed “In Unity & Culture, We Thrive,” was more than a cultural showcase. It was a celebration of the strength and progress of Remoland, featuring colorful displays of traditional dance, drumming, and artwork.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, while giving his speech said: “As a united community, Remoland has achieved remarkable progress in agriculture, industrialisation, education and technology. With the Ogun State Gateway International Airport and the Agro-Cargo Special Processing Zone, Remoland continues to play a pivotal role in our state’s development.

“This celebration underscores the unity, resilience and cultural pride that define Remoland. It serves as an inspiration for us all to foster socio-economic growth and unlock tourism potential across our state”

After the rally, a royal banquet was held at the Akarigbo Palace, Ita Oba, to celebrate the success of the programme.

Prior to the finale, Remo Day had experience loads of activities leading up to the grand rally, including an art exhibition at Akarigbo Palace, which was held in two parts— an art competition within Remo secondary school, and an art exhibition showcasing the culture, traditions, towns, notable individuals, as well as the history of Remoland. It featured the official opening of the Art and Exhibition Centre in Remo with photographs, music, and a show of artifacts on display.

Following the art exhibition was the dance drama where Remo (A Total Theatre Experience) was premiered. Veteran actor, Kunle Bamtefa, led others to perform on stage. The play which drew narration from the book on the history of the land as well as stories passed down from generations, and part of the Martindale Inquiry was held at Camelot Hotel, Ilisan Remo, Sagamu, Ogun State.
