Mohamed Salah has once again faced criticism from his Muslim followers after continuing his annual tradition of posting a picture in front of a Christmas tree

Mohamed Salah has once again been criticised by his Muslim followers after posting a picture of him and his family in front of a Christmas tree.

The Liverpool star, who is a Muslim, captioned the photo with “#MerryChristmas”.

As has become the tradition for him, his wife Magi, and daughters Makka and Kayan, they posed in matching pyjamas for his Christmas post, smiling in front of their tree and a gingerbread person.

Muslims do not traditionally celebrate Christmas but some do partake in the festivities that take place during the Christian holiday.

“You let me down bro,” wrote one user on Instagram, where Salah shared the post to his 63.7million followers.

“Delete this right now,” posted another, while a third wrote: “At this point am just disappointed in you bro.”

Salah has been in scintillating form this season, netting 15 Premier League goals so far

Another said: “We Muslim people look up to you and you do this in return,” accompanied by three crying emojis.

Other leapt to the defence of Salah, with one fan writing: “Merry Christmas Mo. Ignore all these idiots. Hope you and your family have a well deserved holiday season.”

Another posted: “In what has become an annual tradition on Christmas Day, I read and enjoy the comments on post for an hour. Never disappoints.”

Salah has been in scintillating form this season, netting 15 goals and picking up 11 assists so far this term, meaning he leads the race for the golden boot.

After shining against Tottenham in Liverpool’s last game, he became the first-ever Premier League player to register 10 goals and assists before Christmas.

He is set to line up against Leicester on Boxing Day for the Reds, but that didn’t stop fans criticising him under his post.

One follower posted: “With all the warning you still go ahead and posted this shame pose of yours. May Allah guard you to the ryt part. For now on, I shall be unfollow you from all platform and also block you. You are disgraceful. I also stop to watch Liverpool match forever.”

Another wrote: “Mark my words you won’t score any goal till end of the season, for disrespecting our beloved prophet SAW and the entire Muslim community.”

His Christmas posts have provoked ire from Muslim followers, as seen here back in 2023

Salah’s festive well-wishing post provokes a furious reaction from his Muslim followers on a yearly basis.

However, he clearly shows no sign of slowing up with what has become a tradition for him and his family.

It comes amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his contract, which expires at the end of the season alongside those of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

In November he told a small selection of reporters, which included Mail Sport’s Lewis Steele, that he was “more out than in”.

“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in,” he said.

“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.

“I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands.”

Liverpool have since offered the star a contract but the two parties are yet to agree terms.
