Ọ̀RẸ̀ – No fewer than three Nigerian policemen and one suspect lost their lives in a fatal road accident that reportedly occurred on the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
It was gathered that the deceased officers were part of the monitoring units of the Ondo State Police Command that left Akure, the state capital – to arrest a suspect when the incident occurred.
The state police command’s spokeswoman Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident without details.
“The incident happened, that is what I can say for now,” the police spokeswoman stated.
The crash happened when a truck lost control while descending the Ore bridge and rammed into the police vehicle, killing the victims, sources said.
“The deceased policemen and a female suspect died on the spot while the other police officer who was seriously injured had been rushed to an undisclosed hospital. They left Akure to arrest the suspect at Ore Area,” a source told a local newspaper.
