At least 10 people have been killed and several others injured after a Russian missile struck a busy area in Pechenihy, Kharkiv region of Ukraine, hitting a post office, shops and nearby residential buildings.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed this on Tuesday in a post on X, describing the attack as a “brutal” strike on a civilian area.
“This morning, the Russians launched a brutal attack on a busy intersection in Pechenihy, Kharkiv region – a location with a post office and stores, surrounded only by residential buildings,” Zelensky wrote.
“As of now, 10 people have been reported killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Many people have been injured and are receiving all necessary medical care.”
Zelensky said first responders had extinguished the fire while emergency and rescue teams continued operations at the scene.
He added that authorities were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
“We will definitely respond to this Russian strike. And it is equally important that our partners also complement our just kinetic responses with their own actions to put pressure on Russia and support Ukraine,” he said.
The development comes after a separate Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv reportedly killed 17 people and injured 44 others.
On July 24, about 11 people were also reported killed in Russian attacks across Ukraine, including strikes on Kyiv.
