Ten people lost their lives while three others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash on Ome Bridge, inbound Awa, along the Obada Expressway in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Traffic and Emergency Compliance Agency confirmed the incident, stating that it involved a Mitsubishi bus with registration number EJ829 LSR.
Spokesman for the agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking, which led the vehicle to veer off the road into a nearby bush and plunge into the river.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has arrested a wanted serial kidnapper and recovered weapons linked to past abductions.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit apprehended Clement Elijah, who had been on the run since 2024 for a high-profile kidnapping at Ajelanwa village. Two of his accomplices were previously arrested.
“Elijah arrived Ibiade community on June 13, 2025, with plans to abduct a prominent individual in Ago Village, Abigi, but his mission was thwarted through timely collaboration between the police and vigilant residents,” she said.
Odutola added that during a clearance operation on June 16, 2025, the suspected gang armourer, Posi Friday, was arrested.
A pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, and eight live cartridges hidden inside a Boom Speaker were recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended residents of Ibiade and Abigi communities for their prompt cooperation and support, describing it as key to the success of the operation.
In a separate incident, the Anti-Cultism Team arrested fourteen suspected cultists from two rival groups on June 16, 2025.
The suspects were reportedly planning reprisal attacks over supremacy battles.
